Emma and David were discussing over coffee about how societies should be run. Emma said, “I believe a healthy society is one where people have real opportunities to take part in decision-making, and information is open to everyone.” David shook his head. “But many leaders think citizens should stay out of serious decisions, and news should be strictly controlled. That’s their idea of stability.” Emma frowned. “That doesn’t sound like true democracy to me.” David replied, “It may not sound right, but this idea has been around since modern governments first appeared. Controlling information is seen as necessary by those in power.” Emma sighed. “Then we really need to ask ourselves what kind of society we want to live in.”
