Sophie and her sister, Laura, are both in their early 50s. After Laura’s second divorce, she dated a man named Mark for a few months, but decided he wasn’t right for her and moved on. Laura is now happily engaged to Peter. Years ago, Sophie went on a few casual dates with Mark, long before Laura ever met him. Recently, Sophie and Mark reconnected and fell deeply in love. However, Laura feels betrayed and says it’s inappropriate for Sophie to date someone she was once involved with. Their parents agree and say it will be “awkward” at family gatherings. Sophie’s grown children, however, fully support her relationship. Sophie feels torn: Should she give up her happiness to make her family comfortable, or stand up for her own choices?
